In six months, we've seen much progress, activity and
awareness of poetry and related groups, associations, with meetings
established in the Durham Region since January 2006.
First, The Ontario Poetry Society in Oshawa through Graham
Ducker, Branch Manager began by holding regular monthly meetings and
it didn't take long for the 'word' to get out. The Ontario Poetry
Society are holding their first Poetry Event on June 11th in Oshawa with member attending from various locations in
southern Ontario, including the Founder, I. B. Iskov and President,
Shirley A. McCormick. To quote Graham: 'Poetry is alive and well in
Durham Region!'
Next followed Stella Ducker, who was honored with the
appointment of Chair of the Durham Region Federation of Poets. Joint
meetings were held with the Ontario
Poetry Society.
Soon, followed by Kevin Craig, Chair of Durham Regions'
Canadian Poetry Association. Kevin has launch a great networking
centre "The CPA Message Board" province wide. Local and
inter-provincial poetry events etc are also posted.
The Durham Region Poetry Digest
has changed name to reflect the growth and
success since it's inception. It has been decided to re-name it
The Stellar Showcase Journal which will remove it's local aspect and
give a broader scope and diversity. The 'transitional'
first issue with the new name and logo and ISSN will be set up in August
and our new quarter begining in September.
I look forward to write and report all the progress and growth I feel sure will be made.
There are exciting plans being worked on to bring in more fun and
activity for all poets and
writers. Thank you all for your part in this venture!
