Sunday
morning saw us at Memorial Park in Brighton. Busy people helping one
another setting up tents followed with tables displaying books,
artwork and to Richard Grove's delight, monkeys
made with socks, artwork etc. In time, people would walk
about checking out what everyone had and a warm feeling of
camaraderie set the mood
for the day.
R. D. Roy is a most
amazing person in my opinion, aside from being a poet. His poetry
reveals a lot about this man and his feelings toward his fellowman.
He was the MC for the afternoon's reading and kept everything
running smoothly and on time. The park was a great setting and the
weather outdid itself. I have no complaints.
The Brighton Antiques Cafe was next on the schedule and what a great
place it was. The food was fantastic! Cheesecake that only New York
could rival. The red wine, devine! This was followed by the poetry
readings for the evening. First up was John B. Lee, Poet Laureate
of Brantford, made us all laugh with his "We're Handsome in Our
Pajamas". I meant to get the book with that poem in it and it
slipped my mind. Next time. John is not only a most interesting
person to converse with, the same can be said about his poetry that
he writes so prolifically on any given subject, time and place. It
boggles the mind.
I'm sorry, but I cannot say enough about Allan Briesmaster's
reading, especially from his Interstellar. He demonstrated his
'mastery' of descriptive words. I believe he 'Wowed' everyone.
At one point, I wasn't sure what to expect when poets and poetry
was melded with a standup bass being played, but quickly I knew it
was 'meant to be' and should be done more often. Amazing! What a
splendid ending to a perfect weekend.
Thank you to Richard Grove, (President of Canada Cuba Literary
Alliance) Chris Faire, R. D. Roy and Mark Clement for all of the
hard work that went into this weekend. Kudos and Bravo! Well done!
Looking forward to our next Canada Cuba Literary Alliance—August
2008!
