The day for the long awaited Hola Cuba book launch finally
arrived. It was well worth the waiting, planning and organizing.
It was decided that it would be held,
if possible, somewhere that would reflect
and compliment the Canada Cuba Literary Alliance and the book
entitled "Hola Cuba".
The word was put out and lo and behold, a place was located and
arrangments
made in an authentic Cuban Restaurant 'La Pequena Havana' in
Whitby ON.
Seventeen attendees between Toronto and Brighton (members and
non-members) gathered and were served a typical Cuban dinner,
complete with a cake bearing the
book title Hola Cuba decorated on it. During the meal there were
memories of
our trips to Cuba, a discussion of our exciting up coming trip to
Holguin Cuba inJanuary 2009.
A couple of our members that previously had been on our trip would
not be able to this year. However, Richard Grove (President)
announced that there were some new members that would be coming!
This helped to perk us up although we would miss Donna and Deb.
The book launch was different and informal. We stayed sitting at
our tables and anyone that wanted to read stood up where they were
and read their poetry. In between readings were conversations
based on sharing memories of past trips or readings and exchanging
information with our new member and non-members attending.
At the half way point, it was suggested that in order for everyone
to get to know one
another, that certain ones from each table would leave to sit at
the other table.
More poetry was read with further conversation taking place.
Ending the afternoon, thanks to Gail Murray with one of the
restaurant staff
gave a quick inpromtu demonstartion of the Salsa steps. Now we
are all eager for another CCLA event where we can practice and
learn the Salsa!
