sixteen and immortal
my son mirrors me
when i did not fear
the future, had
no knowledge to refute
that dreams
are not forever
and also sadly youth
no thoughts
about redemption
or promises to keep
sixteen and immortal
no time to see or weep
for all the future phantoms
that strip away your soul
leaving you
with yesterdays
no longer in control
bookmarks of your passage
through slow mortality.
