        Groundhog Day

Snow slides from the roof
to cover October's corpse
naked branches blush, soon
will sprout green,
foliage before Fool's Day
predicts the shadow not seen,
an absence
of interrupted light –
if the sun shone bright
blizzards could rage until May.
