The Fire Storm

the month of May
1945

a bright spring day
an air raid warning

then came B-29 bombers
hundred of them

they flew over
high above

white contrails
all over the sky

bombs fell
the city burned

the fire storm
devoured life

then the brown rain
from the dark cloud

poured down
on the scorched earth

I don't remember much
I was only alive

my swollen eyes
could see little

I was unfeeling
life was like death

they said thousands died
I didn't care

the stench had no name
death no meaning

many people died in a war
many people will die in a war

the world is neither just nor unjust
the life is neither fair nor unfair

Forgiven
not forgotten
