Editor:
Let's begin
with when and why did
you begin writing?
WR: I began writing
when I was a teenager, but it was not my work, I used to write
from other poets and I always thought
it was a good thing to give to a girl, you know,
like giving a specific message.
Editor: Humm… I
think I do ;-) When did you first consider yourself a poet?
WR: When I showed my
work to a poet and she told me it was not good at all, that I
needed experience.
Editor: How did
that make you feel or think?
WR: That every poet
has a different style, and everyone might have the same vision about
a problem or feeling, but we
all are different in many ways.
Editor: Tell us
about this first or, the earliest that you remember, Wency Rosales
poem.
WR: I remember it
was written with specific meaning, for a girl, and the message went
thru, and I got
what I wanted. :-)
Editor: Ah, you had
a ‘way with words’ ;-)
Where do you get the inspiration or ideas for a poem,
besides a girl? :-)
WR: Sometimes from
some other people problems, but mostly what happens in my
daily life.
Editor: Who or what
inspired your first (or 2nd ) chapbook ?
WR: My parents,
they could not see my dream come true, but I am sure if they were
alive they would be very
proud of it.
Editor: I have no
doubts about that. Do you have a specific writing style?
WR: I think it is
free style.

Editor:
If you had to
choose, which poet
would you consider as a mentor?
WR: Pablo Neruda
(Chilean Writer)
with no rhymes.
Editor: Who or what
influenced your poetry?
WR: Life.
Editor: Who is your
favorite poet?
WR: There are too
many I wouldn’t want to
choose.
Editor: What advice
can you offer to up and
coming poets?
WR: Write what you
feel, then edit but never
change your mind. Watch the American
movie the Dead
Poet’s Society.

Editor:
Can you share a
little of your current work with us?
WR: I am working on
some poems for *CCLA anthologies and I am also working
on some poems for The Envoy,
the CCLA journal. I am invited to publish some of
my work in the March edition and in
April I am invited as a guest Editor.
Editor: How
exciting! That’s wonderful. Do you have anything to say to our
readers?
RW: When you read,
you share feelings with the writer, you meet someone that has gone
through same experiences as yours, then you smile, or cry
and give thanks for what
you have read. It
makes you think you are alive in someone else’s mind. Keep on
reading. Look for CCLA Poetry Anthologies coming up
soon.
They will be
great.
Editor: If you had
to do it all over again what would you do differently?
RW: Exactly
nothing, just begin earlier.
Editor: What does
poetry mean to you?
RW: Poetry gives
meaning to my life, I can express whatever I feel at any moment.
I just need a pen and a
piece of paper.
Editor: How
important is poetry to you?
RW: First my
family, then poetry. Does that answer your question?
Editor: Yes it sure
does. :-) Your writing reflects’ it.
Is there anything you find challenging about poetry?
RW: When sometimes
you don’t find the right word for something, then that is challenging.

Editor:
Tell us your latest
news (and / or) future goals that you can, or would like to
share with our
readers and your fans?
RW: I am one of the
CCLA* Cuban Ambassadors and together with Manuel Velázquez,
the Vice-president, I
organized some activities for the CCLA Canadian members
last January.
Starting from that point, I want to organize CCLA activities
in Cuba, like poetry
readings and workshops
and I want to talk to the right people to see CCLA books
published in Cuba.
And maybe compile more of my work and finish a poetry book
that I would like to do with a painter, ( haven’t
found the painter yet).
I want to find engravers.
You know any? And I also would like to translate a book
from English to Spanish
and vice versa from some one else.
I haven’t found it
either. Know any???
Editor: Not off
hand, No. But, I’m sure you’ll find them. :-)
We've asked the questions, now what would YOU like to say,
share or express ?
RW: I want to
thank, first of all, Richard Grove. He gave me the opportunity to see
part
of my work published, and
the confidence to work for the CCLA, the chance to
meet so many wonderful
people, all the CCLA Canadian members. No names.
They know who they are.
Love you all!!! Thanks Tai!!!!
Then I met Graham Ducker and his wonderful wife Stella, who
are responsible for
making my dream come
true, publishing my chapbook, Shades of my Feelings,
and not only that, but they are now like my family and there
are not words to
thank everything they do
for me.
Finally I want to thank you personally for giving me this
opportunity.
Again, no words.
Editor: It's our
pleasure. Thank you
for taking the time out of your busy
schedule
to do this interview. We wish you the best
with your future books
and projects.
Thank you.

In the year 2008
by Wency Rosales
Several members of the Cuba Canada Literary Alliance,
suffered the loss of friends and dear ones, it is the honest
desire that this poem be to encourage all our friends
and families
Sometimes we think that we are ready for everything,
Including death,
sometimes we think that a person that lies in a bed,
suffering an incurable illness should rest
once and for all.
And we don't realize that we are so vulnerable,
That in fact it hurts us, that in fact
we fear that their soul leave forever.
the sympathies and the most sincere condolences are not enough.
We should live with the sadness of the heart,
And the heart is so fragile that it never cures the wounds,
Because it leaves deep traces, as fossil in stone.
And when it happens, when we face the hard truth,
It wraps us a feeling of anguish and impotence,
Of not being able to make anything except saying a prayer,
So that they know that our love and our spirit are with them.
difficult moments, memories of some dear ones,
Where we have also been witness of pain and tears.
The words that can be expressed get loosen with the sob,
And there is just the thought,
the desire that God,
give them the blessing of his comfort in this departure minute.
